BoBo Buddies was a premium soft toy brand dedicated to creating high quality, functional toys at reasonable prices. After a successful showing on UK’s “Dragon’s Den” where the owner, James, received all five offers the company grew to supplying 800 retailers nationally with their blanket backpack. After this time, they needed to diversify by creating new ranges to compete in an ever saturated market.

My Role

As the sole designer I had to cover all the design bases, whether it was creating social media artwork or larger briefs, including redesigning the exhibition stand, creating new product lines and updating the company branding.

One of my main tasks from the start of my time at BoBo Buddies was exploring and creating new product lines. The new baby range was released at the beginning of November and is a line that was exclusively my own designs. Packaging was also a prominent part of these products. Keeping on brand and within shipping constraints, meant that a holistic approach was taken through all the design stages.

Experience

Instinct and a diverse range of skills were vital in this role. Being the only designer I built on my knowledge of juggling multiple projects while working closely with James on the future designs of the new BoBo Buddies baby range. This contract gave me great insight into the production process of products, packaging and small business operations. Working with the tight knit team, I was part of every decision that was made on a daily basis. This included decisions based not only on design within the company but on business and operations that BoBo Buddies undertook as well.
